Premiering in Canberra this October 2024, the Tony Award-winning, smash-hit Broadway production of “Peter and the Starcatcher” will be brought to life by innovative theatre company Dead Puppet Society.
Brisbane-based theatre company, Dead Puppet Society are known for their imaginative and visually stunning theatre as they combine traditional craftsmanship with modern technology. Their large-scale puppetry, which includes public art and sculptures, creates a world of wonder and excitement that transports you into a world of imagination.
After seeing Peter and the Starcatcher on Broadway, founders David Morton and Nicholas Paine secured the rights from Disney Theatrical Group to bring the magical tale to Australia, creating a modern version of the production.
The play provides a backstory to Peter Pan and his nemesis, Captain Hook, and is filled with the same adventure and humour that you find in the Peter Pan fairy tale. Add to that some fantastical creatures and a little bit of magic and you will find yourself immersed in the story.
Unlike the original production, which required you to visualise some of the creatures in the play, Dead Puppet Society’s production will vividly bring them to life. Their talented craftspeople have been hard at work creating over 100 creatures, including birds, flamingoes, fish and even a crocodile too large to fit on stage.
A mixture of puppetry, live music (three musicians on stage), a stage with moving parts and an exceptional cast of twelve, Dead Puppet Society’s version of Peter and the Starcatcher will captivate the entire family.
